Alessia

My body was shaking from the inside though Leo held me in his arms.

Was this how it felt to kill someone?

We were now in a blue Nissan and Renato had the wheel. I had no idea where we were heading to, but I felt safe as I was with Leo. He hasn’t said a word to me since we’d left the hotel. I could guess he wanted me to be left alone to think. Both of us had almost died. Had I not had a gun, that man would have surely killed Leonardo.

Was this what it meant to be mafia?

I remembered Teo. I brought out my phone from my bag and called him.

“Where are you, Teo?” I said when he picked up.

“I’m on my way back to the hotel,” he replied.

“Don’t go back to the hotel!” I exclaimed.

“Why?” he asked.

“Leonardo and I were attacked at the hotel.”

“Leonardo? Did you tell him you were in Miami?”

“Of course not,” I replied.

“So where are you now?” Teo asked.

“I’m with him and Renato.”

“Where are you guys going?”

“No idea.”

“Where will I meet you?”

I turned and looked at Leonardo, who was already looking at me.

“Where can Teo meet us?”

“Tell him to come to Ferraro's Kitchen Restaurant and Wine Bar.”

“Come to Ferraro's Kitchen Restaurant and Wine Bar.”

“Alright,” Teo replied, and hung up the phone.

I looked at Leonardo. He was no longer looking at me.

After a while, the car came to a stop in front of what seemed to be a warehouse. We got out and entered it.

"Alessia!" Boris exclaimed when he saw me.

I ran to him and he threw his arms around me; I felt so relieved to be around people that I knew.

"Why did you come to Miami?" he asked me.

"I had to take care of something," I replied.

"But it’s not safe for you to be here; as you can see, you were attacked back at the hotel."

"This is my husband's life, Uncle Boris. I knew this was what I was walking into when I married him, and I am willing to help him as best as I can."

"I understand you, Alessia, but what did you come to do here?"

"Something important," I replied. Boris turned and gave Leo a questioning gaze.

"She has refused to tell me as well," Leonardo said.

"But why?" Boris asked.

"It's personal," I replied. "It's between my father and I."

"I hope you're not about to do something rash," Boris said.

"I'm not a child anymore. I've thought long about this."

"Well then, I just have to trust you. You have the mafia in you.”

“You think so?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

“Come with me,” Leonardo said, and held my hand. He led me into a room in the warehouse. “Alessia, I can’t bear to lose you. You saw what happened this night.” He placed his hands on my shoulder. “You aren’t ready for this, Alessia.”

“My mind is made up, Leo. Trust me on this one. I saved you back there; I can handle myself.”

Leo was silent.

“Listen, Leonardo, this is something Teo and I have to do. We can handle our father.
